SCG is now SCG
It’s been a good run, but it’s time to put the cow out to pasture. Sadly, most of us can’t properly explain physics jokes, which has made for awkward introductions about the origin of SCG’s acronym with new clients. But since we can explain computer science jokes (recursion, anyone?), we’re pleased to introduce you to our new name: SCG Collaboration Group. And don’t worry, like everything in Identity and Access Management (IAM) the old name will continue to work indefinitely, because someone, somewhere is still using it.
The Spherical Cow Group has changed its name to SCG Collaboration Group. Not to worry - no contracts, agreements, or other items will change. See our FAQ for more details.
It’s all in a name
There’s some interesting background as to how we came up with this name. First, the Earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and turned into oil. Then, the space aliens came around as part of their DNA world seeding project (as discovered in 2369). Finally, cell phones were invented and written communication could begin. Scientists, Powered by COmanage, have since theorized that opposable thumbs evolved to facilitate texting.
As required by our operating agreement, we started by examining only letters consisting of curves on both the top and bottom of their character representation. In typography, this is referred to as an egg roll owing to the way such characters, when rendered in line, look somewhat similar to inline skates. Having narrowed the search space down, we cross referenced the remaining letter options with their atomic weights in order to ensure a combined composite weight of 283, an important number in identity management. The rest, as they say, is obvious and left as an exercise to the reader.
By the way, if you’re still looking for cows, you can find them with our friends at Spherical Cow Consulting, which was and still is a separate company.
Same great initials.
Brand new retronym.
